How Esther Chukwujekwu emerge Miss Kanekalon

20 year –old Esther Chiamaka Chukwujekwu was recently crowned Miss Kanekalon 2015 at a well attended event.
She beat 20 other contestants at the finals of the competition to emerge winner of this prestigious crown. The event which, took place at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos also provided a platform for hair stylists from across the country to showcase their creativity by styling the hairs of the contestants. The contestants strutted on stage as they displayed innovative braid styles. The annual pageant is a unique one as it is a way of celebrating Nigeria’s “braid” culture and style. Also, it is a way of bringing out the beauty of African woman.
During the selection, the finalists made their first appearance in black jeans and T-Shirt, with a well crafted hairstyles.
Their second appearance was in different Nigerian attires, which were well accessorized with cultural beads.
During the evening gown parade, they also appeared in arrays of beautiful and well designed gowns. It was at this stage that the contestants were reduced to 10, and were tested on their intelligence. They were posed with the question of the what the essence of African woman truly is.
In the end, Esther Chiamaka Chukwujiekwu emerged winner, while Abisola Salawu and Elma Mbadiwe emerged first and second runner up respectively.
Among the judges were fashion designer, Frank Osodi of House of Bruno, Ghanian Cosmetologist, Patience Able Nogbemalo, Modeling agent and fashion designer, Bayo Adegbe of Modela, and Radion and TV Personality, Kaylah Oniwo.

The winners made away with fantastic gifts. The first position took home N2million cash and a 2015 Toyota Yaris car, the
1st Runner up got N1.5 million and a 60inch Samsung TV, while the 2nd runner up went home with N1 million.
The stylists too, did not go home empty handed. The 1st place received a 3.5KVA Generator, 2 Hanging dryers and 1 year supply of Kanekalon hair products, the 2nd place got 2.5 KVA generator, 1 trolley and 9 months supply of Kanekalon hair products, and the 3rd winner was given 1.5 KVA generator, 1 trolley and 6 months of Kanekalon products.
There were also great performances by Olamide and Seyi Shay, while a notable comedian, Kofi was the compeer at the occasion.
The event was sponsored by other stakeholders in the industry. They are Nina, Darling, and Expression. There was a hair parade for these partners.
With the Miss Kanekalon event, the yearly Kanekalon hairstyle competition assumed a higher level; They have gone beyond hair competition to a complete beauty package.
